Irish Ginger Snaps

I made these cookies last week for our missions presentation. They were so good. I am not sure what makes them "Irish", but that is what the recipe said from allrecipes.com

Irish Ginger Snaps Recipe

Ingredients

1 cup white sugar
1 egg
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup shortening
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Cream sugar, egg, salt and shortening together. Add flour, baking soda and spices. Mix well. Roll teaspoonfuls of dough into balls and roll the balls in sugar.
Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 5 to 6 minutes.

I also made Confectioner's icing with powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla and drizzled it over the top of the cookies to make them prettier... and sweeter I guess. :)
